Abstract:
This coverage consists of the Environmental Protection Agency Ecological Mapping and Assessment Program (EMAP) hexagons for Idaho. The Idaho data were selected from the hexagonal sampling design for the conterminous United States. Each hexagon is approximately 635 km2. The design, a systematic grid covering of the state, allow for an uniformed spatial distribution in which to sample. The grid's placement is determined by a formal randomization to ensure strict adherence to requirements for probability sampling.
Purpose:
This coverage was used by the Idaho Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Unit's Landscape Dynamics Lab for the Idaho Gap Analysis Project. Specifically, it was used in delineating the approximate range boundaries for terrestrial vertebrates to be modeled as part of the Idaho Gap Analysis Project. To display hexagon ranges for the species of interest, link the hexagon-id item in hexagon.pat with the hexagon-id item in herphex.total, birdhex.total, or mamhex.total. Then, query the *.total table for the species elcode of interest. Species are named by The Nature Conservancy element code as of 2001. The Idaho Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit makes no guarantee as to the completeness or accuracy of this coverage.
